The long holiday begins

A few days ago, we left home-home and started driving north to get south. We passed through Piacenza and Bologna to get to Ascoli Piceno. We made a stop-over was not to travel for 1100km straight. I cannot drive for such a long time; I don’t think it’s safe driving for more than six hours.

Ascoli Piceno looks like a place with great potential, but they have to work a lot to develop it. In the centre, you’ll find a lot of historical palaces and churches, but everywhere you turn, there is a building site. It’s not a stretch to say the city is a huge construction site. If I understood correctly, they were affected by an earthquake, and so they are working to stabilise all the structures. What is not being rebuilt is not kept as you may expect for an important historical location. It’s a pity; I’m sad to report that. I hope in a few years they change, even if, and this is a general feeling I’m having since I got to Italy, keeping the public infrastructure clean and well maintained is not a priority.

Two very positive expects of our stay in Ascoli Piceno were: the room we rented was amazing and we had a nice dinner. Suite Atelier Arringo is a stunning little gem in the offer of rooms and B&B you can find in the market. If you are planning to stay in Ascoli look for this room.
